Son Of Former Nigerian Chief Justice Uwais Who Joined ISIS Is Killed In Syrian Airstrike

Celebrity gist has learned that Ibrahim Uwais, a son of former Chief Justice Mohammed Uwais, died today near Aleppo, Syria as the United States targeted members of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in fierce airstrikes.

A source said that the late Ibrahim Uwais, who secretly traveled to Syria in February 2015 to join ISIS, was one of numerous Islamist terrorists who perished as US military aircraft bombarded known ISIS camps near the besieged Syrian city of Aleppo.

“Ibrahim died today on the battlefield in Aleppo,” our source stated. He added that one of the two wives of the deceased currently trapped in Syria might notify the family of his death.

Ibrahim Uwais left Nigeria in 2015, telling close family members he was headed to Turkey to explore business opportunities. He took along his two wives and five kids. However, he slipped from Turkey into Syria with his entire family and joined the burgeoning army of volunteer fighters who travel from different parts of the world to enlist with ISIS, a group whose agenda is to carve out an Islamist caliphate.

FIRS: Jimoh Ibrahim’s firms owe N575m in taxes

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) says Nicon Luxury Hotel, owned by Jimoh Ibrahim, a Nigerian businessman, is currently defaulting in unpaid tax liabilities, to the tune of N392,623,765.

The agency also said Nicon Insurance has N182,685, 036 million in unremitted withholding tax and (Value Added Tax) VAT from 2008 to 2012.

In a statement released on Thursday, FIRS said it sealed companies in Lagos, Abuja, Owerri and Kaduna in continuation of its efforts to arrest the growing incidence of non-remittance.

In Lagos, the FIRS sealed the premises of Swift Networks, an internet provider, and Pan Ocean Oil Corporation Nigeria Limited, for failing to remit huge amounts in VAT.

“Swift Networks, which has its office on 31, Saka Tinubu Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, failed to remit N702 million to the government. It’s office was sealed by FIRS officials  led by the Director of Enforcement, Emeka, Obiagwu,” FIRS said.

FIRS said several notices have been served on  the companies and several moves were also made to compel the companies to remit their taxes, but most of these companies turn deaf ears.

“At the office of Pan Ocean Oil Corporation, the enforcement recorded some drama, with the company’s security men attempting to prevent FIRS officials from carrying out their duty,” it added.

Soldiers Flog Lady For Wearing Bum-short To A Polling Unit In Lagos

Some military men took their electoral security duties a bit too far when they caught a young lady wearing bum-shorts to a polling unit for accreditation on Saturday, April 11, during the governorship elections in Lagos State and flogged her seriously.

The incident happened on Mba Street in Ajegunle area of state, when the soldiers saw the a lady on her way back from the accreditation center and accosted her on why she should dress in such an indecent way.

But the lady was said to have insulted the officers by calling them local and bush people who did not know what was in vogue.
This was said to have angered the soldiers who descended on her and flogged her mercilessly and after that, made her to undergo some punishments like frog jumping and rolling on the road.

Governor Ajimobi breaks second term jinx in Oyo

OYO State Governor Abiola Ajimobi yesterday broke the second term jinx, winning the governorship election.After he was declared the winner at the state Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC’s) headquartres, the ancient capital city, Ibadan, erupted in jubilation as hundreds of men and women, young and old took to the streets in honour of the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate.

At about 5.15pm shortly after the INEC made the announcement of the results, many party men, who kept vigil at the commission’s state secretariat at Agodi since Saturday, embarked on victory dance in groups, waving brooms.

Many of the residents also joined the train, which marched through Mokola to the Oluyole residence of Ajimobi on foot.

Outside the city, residents of Saki, Iseyin, Oyo, Okeho, Iwo-Ate and Ibarapa also rejoiced as the news broke that Ajimobi had been officially announced winner of the keenly contested poll.

The governor polled 327,310 to beat his closest challenger, Rashidi Ladoja of Accord, who scored 254,520. Labour Party (LP) candidate, Adebayo Alao-Akala, came third with 184,111 votes.

Ajimobi won in 20 local governments. Ladoja got seven and Alao-Akala won in six.

They were followed by the candidates of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Teslim Folarin, who scored 79,019, Seyi Makinde of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) polled 54,740, to come fifth.

Of the 32 House of Assembly seats, the APC won 18, Accord won eight. LP won six seats.

Nigerians attack Oba of Lagos for his 'Anti-Igbo' comments

Many Nigerians have expressed outrage over the threat by Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, against Igbo if they fail to vote for the Lagos State All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, in Saturday’s election.

The monarch reportedly told Igbo leaders in Lagos on Saturday that he would “make life unbearable” for the Igbos in Lagos if they frustrate efforts to ensure that Am¬bode emerges as the next governor of the state.
Oba Akiolu was quoted as saying, “On Saturday, if anyone of you goes against Ambode, whom I picked, that is your end. If it does not happen within seven days, just know that I am a bastard and it is not my father who gave birth to me.
“By the grace of God, I am the owner of Lagos for the time being. On Saturday, if anyone of you, I swear in the name of God, goes against my wish that Ambode will be the next governor of Lagos State, the person is going to die in¬side this water.”
Some Nigerians took to Twitter to comment on the controversial 'anti-igbo' comments.

Bode George slams Oba of Lagos

The leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos, Chief Bode George, has berated the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, for allegedly threatening Igbo people to vote for the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, or face death.

George said this at a press conference in Lagos on Wednesday which was attended by a former Minister of Works, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe; the PDP Chairman in the state, Tunji Shelle; and other party leaders.

George said it was unfortunate that Akiolu had openly taken sides with a political party. He urged the monarch to relinquish his crown and go into partisan politics if he could not remain neutral.

He said, “The Oba of Lagos is my friend but we belong to different political parties. I was shell-shocked when I heard the comments by my friend telling our Igbo brothers – because they decided who to vote for PDP – that he would curse them to run into the Lagos lagoon. By the grace of God that will never happen.

“He said he owns Lagos. There is a need to draw a line between who a kabiyesi is and who a governor is. The kabiyesi is a traditional ruler and father of all. If he wants to play politics like some of us, he should leave that throne, come out and meet us on the field.

“We should not denigrate that office and use it as a political platform to deride other parties.”
