BUHARI VICTORY: 'We should be celebrating rather than mourning' - Jonathan tells PDP

President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday said despite his defeat in the hands of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) of the All Progressives Congress in the last presidential election, the Peoples Democratic Party should be celebrating rather than mourning.

In his statement after the announcement of the election result, Jonathan said the PDP should be rejoicing because it had, in the last 16 years, steered the country away from ethnic and regional politics.

He said, “To my colleagues in the PDP, I thank you for your support. Today, the PDP should be celebrating rather than mourning. We have established a legacy of democratic freedom, transparency, economic growth and free and fair elections.

“For the past 16 years, we have steered the country away from ethnic and regional politics. We created a Pan-Nigerian political party and brought home to our people the realities of economic development and social transformation.

“Through patriotism and diligence, we have built the biggest and most patriotic party in Nigerian history. We must stand together as a party and look to the future with renewed optimism.”

The President thanked all Nigerians for the opportunity given him to lead the country.

He assured them that he would continue to do his best at the helm of national affairs until the end of his tenure on May 29.

Jonathan disclosed that he had conveyed his personal best wishes to Buhari and prayed that God continue to bless Nigeria.

While thanking Nigerians for turning out en-masse for the March 28 elections, he said he had kept his promise to bequeath the culture of free and fair elections to the country.

He added that he had also expanded the space for Nigerians to participate in the democratic process, saying that is one legacy he would like to see endured.

Jonathan said although some people have expressed mixed feelings about the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, those who might feel aggrieved should follow due process based on the constitution and electoral laws in seeking redress.

He added, “As I have always affirmed, nobody’s ambition is worth the blood of any Nigerian. The unity, stability and progress of our dear country is more important than anything else.

“I congratulate all Nigerians for successfully going through the process of the March 28th General Elections with the commendable enthusiasm and commitment that was demonstrated nationwide.

“I also commend the Security Services for their role in ensuring that the elections were mostly peaceful and violence-free.”

With presidential election results
from all but one of Nigeria’s 36
states counted, and the candidate
of the All Progressives Congress,
Muhammadu Buhari, clearly in
unassailable lead, President
Goodluck Jonathan has
telephoned Mr. Buhari to concede
defeat.
The spokesperson of the APC, Lai
Mohammed, told reporters in
Abuja that President Jonathan has
conceded defeat.
He said the president called Mr.
Buhari to congratulate him on
wining the presidential election
held Saturday.
“The President called General
Buhari at 5: 05 pm this evening to
congratulate him for emerging
victorious,” Mr. Mohammed said.
He commended the president for
“that singular act”.
The Independent National

declare Mr. Buhari winner
because it is still expecting results
from Nigeria’s remote Borno
State.
By the time the Borno vote is
added to the tally, Mr. Buhari
would have garnered 15,416,221
votes. All of Mr. Mr. Jonathan’s
12,853, 162 votes have already
being counted.

President Jonathan Felt Dissapointed By Obanikoro, Mimiko, Adams, Fani Kayode

Even the man who President Goodluck Jonathan just gave Billions of Naira contract could not deliver for him.
Apparently, many people, especially in the South-West, collected Jonathan’s money and still voted against him.
In the overall, all those Jonathan trusted to deliver for him have failed him.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs (2), Musliu Obanikoro failed to deliver his polling unit to Jonathan who had expected some electoral magic from Obanikoro.
Bode George and Jimi Agbaje also failed.
Also, in Ondo State, Governor Olusegun Mimiko, like Obanikoro, failed woefully to deliver his ward to the PDP
and the President. OPC militant leader, Gani Adams, also failed to deliver for Jonathan.
See the results from their wards and polling united below:
1. Obanikoro
Ikoyi Polling Unit
Presidential: APC 62; PDP 38
Senate: 58; 44
Reps: 56; 38
2. Mimiko

Gbemisola Saraki defects to the APC

Former governor of Kwara State and the All Progressives Congress (APC) leader in the state yesterday spoke on the report of his sister, Gbemisola Saraki’s defection to the APC, saying a formal announcement would soon be made on it.
But all indications have pointed to her resignation from PDP as one of her famous aides and women leader of the party in the state, Hajia Nimota Ibrahim has already resigned from the PDP. Gbemi, who addressed her supporters when she arrived Ilorin on Friday, asked them to go out on Saturday with broom (symbol of APC) and “sweep their communities clean.”
Her defection from PDP was a fallout of her alleged marginalisation in the party where a section of the party is said not to be disposed to her membership. However, her brother with whom she fell out during the 2011 elections when he opposed her governorship ambition, spoke on the raging defection story yesterday during her interactive session with journalists.
Asked to comment on the rumoured defection, he stated that a formal announcement would be made on it in due course, adding that “things are definitely happening.”
Daily Trust reliably gathered that a public gathering is being planned by the APC where Gbemi would formally announce her return to the APC fold which would further put paid to the rumour of the frosty relationship between her and her brother who is the scion of the Olusola Saraki dynasty.
Gbemi Saraki, who is the first daughter of Second Republic Senate Leader and a governorship aspirant of the PDP on Friday asked her supporters to vote for APC during Saturday’s presidential election even though she had kept mum on her purported defection.
